Episode 6

Fantasy of Justice (Turkish)

In the sixth episode of Justice Atlas 2, we will be talking about how we dream of justice in its absence by way of vigilante heroes of the comic book world and some socialist neighbourhoods of Istanbul, together with editor Aybars Yanık and anthropologist Deniz Yonucu.

Some of the questions we will seek to answer in this episode are:
In what ways do the pro-establishment and anti-establishment vigilantes differ? Why is the comic book universe fond of turning the sense of justice into a fantasy? Who is given the right to be a vigilante hero like Batman? Why did the quest for securing justice on their own strike up in some particular neighbourhoods of Istanbul? What did this pursuit lead to when paired with violence? Why is the figure of vigilante hero popular both in public and on screen? How does the wish of having a vigilante leader in governance relate to the desire for supremacy?
