Date and Time: December 4, 2021, Saturday, 17:30-19:30*
The research report “Rock, Paper, Scissors” was published in two languages, Turkish and Kurdish, as an important resource focusing on the role of arts in psychosocial support works aimed at eliminating the effects of the conflict period between 2015-2020. The report presents the findings of the research realized through the interviews made with the representatives of civil society organizations, art organizations, and public institutions that carry out work with children, and the educators and independent activists who carry out such work individually in Batman, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Şırnak, and Van. Soon after the completion of the field research phase of the study, new crises have been added to the ones experienced by children in the region. The pandemic and the further inequalities it brought along, both the newly arising and transforming problems such as deepening poverty, lack of access to education, economic crisis and climate crisis open the field to discussion again. The children, who had been locked down at their homes during the conflict period, were locked down with the curfews of the pandemic period until very recently. Therefore, we gathered under this event organized by Anadolu Kültür and FISA Center for Child’s Rights to discuss the risks that children have been undergoing, the potential ways to eliminate these risks, and the role and impact of the arts in these process.
The online event was comprised of two parts: the talk and the forum, both moderated by Ayşegül Doğan (journalist). During the first part, Ceylan Akgün (psychologist) gave a talk on the effects and results of war and armed conflict, and the methods of therapy utilizing games and arts, under the title “The Role of Arts in Psychosocial Support for Children”. Next, the authors of “Rock, Paper, Scissors”, Ebru Ergin and Ezgi Koman, presented the findings of the report while also commenting on the research process. In the second part of the event, the participants were also included in the discussion in a forum format to discuss the subjects fall under the title: “From Conflict to Pandemic: Current Discussions, Needs and Suggestions in Works for Children”.
