New exhibition on Diyarbakır's Memory: 'The history of production'

The new online exhibition of Diyarbakır’s Memory, The history of production: Crossroads, cornucopia and politics, deals with the city’s history of production and trade.

Diyarbakır’s geographical characteristic and the diversity of climate it creates, had always yielded in a broad spectrum of products. Diyarbakır stands at a crossroads of trade routes in the region, thus further increasing the significance of the city. Extending this historical debate to the present day requires discussing not only wars, regional and global change and famine, but also land reform that failed to materialize, policies that condemned the region to economic underdevelopment and the grave outcome of the combination of neoliberalism with such policies.

Diyarbakır’s Memory was developed as part of the project conducted by Anadolu Kültür in partnership with the Diyarbakır Association for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets. In the website, the tangible and intangible cultural values, multicultural character and history of Diyarbakır, which have remained in existence on its original site for six thousand years without interruption, are treated in light of various chosen themes.
