In Memoriam | April 24
The concert “In Memoriam | April 24” was organized by a collaboration of Anadolu Kültür and Kalan Müzik to commemorate the Armenian intellectuals, poets and writers who were arrested, exiled and killed in 1915. The concert was held at Istanbul Congress Center. Kardeş Türküler, Ara Dinkjian and Onnik Dinkjian, Erkan Oğur, Ertan Tekin, Hasmik Harutyunyan, Karine Hovhannisyan, Haig Yazdjian, Şahan Arzruni, Erman İmayhan, Eileen Khatchadourian, Hennig Schmiedt, Haig Sarikouyoumdjian, Gaguik Mouradian, David Mayoral and Jordi Savall performed in “In Memoriam | April 24.” Texts by Armenian poets and writers were also read at the event.
The concert commemorated the April 24 victims and brought together musicians from the diaspora, Armenia and Turkey. Zülfü Livaneli’s composition “Homage to Gomidas” was performed for the first time on this night.
Family members of the three Armenian intellectuals among those commemorated, Rehan Sarıbay, the grandson of Rupen Sevag’s sister, Serovpe Çubukkarian, the grandson of Taniel Varujan’s cousin, and Seda Pyurad, the grandson of Sımpad Purad, were given statuettes designed by artist Hale Tenger.
The concert ended with the song “Ağladıkça” performed by participating musicians all together.
