Young Films from England Festival
The Young Films from England Festival, realized in partnership by Anadolu Kültür, British Council and Kültürlerarası İletişim Derneği/Intercultural Communication Association, reached an audience of around 4 thousand film lovers in 10 cities across Anatolia as a mini-festival featuring examples of contemporary English cinema.
At each theatre, before the screening, a selection from Antenna UK, featuring the most recent and creative videos from England, was screened. Short films of 10 competitors who received awards and mansions from among 61 participants at the "DV333 Short Film Competition" held in March 2006, which is a competition with a 3-month preparation period for 3-minute digital works, were also shared with audiences. On A Clear Day, The Road To Guantanamo, 37 Uses for a Dead Sheep, Glastonbury and The Liberace of Baghdad were the films featured in the festival screening program.
The "Young Films from England" Festival comprised the cities Diyarbakır, Eskişehir, Samsun, Van, Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Mersin, İzmir, Kayseri and Malatya, and also featured talks in addition to film screenings. Ben Hopkins, director of 37 Uses for a Dead Sheep took part in the talks in Van and Gaziantep; Kishore Verma of London Royal Holloway University took part in the talks in Diyarbakır, İzmir and Eskişehir; Enis Rıza Sakızlı of the Union of Documentary Filmmakers took part in the talk in Mersin; and Sanem Aytaç from Altyazı Magazine took part in the talk in Samsun.
The films were screened at the Diyarbakır Art Centre, İzmir-Konak Municipality Güzelyalı Cultural Centre, Eskişehir Anadolu University Yunus Emre Campus Sinema Anadolu, Gaziantep University Library Pocket Movie Theatre, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Prof.Dr. Osman Tekinel Conference Hall, Mersin University Çiftlikköy Campus Central Conference Hall, Malatya İnönü University Congress and Cultural Centre, Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University Congress and Cultural Centre Movie Hall and Kayseri Erciyes University Sabancı Culture Centre Movie Hall.
