Project to Support the Foundation of Film Clubs in Universities

March 2008 - March 2009
Diyarbakır, Kars, Çanakkale

At universities in the cities of Diyarbakır, Kars and Çanakkale, with which Anadolu Kültür had already established close ties during its previous work, five workshops were held with the aim of increasing the operability of film clubs, or supporting the foundation of new clubs. In workshops designed specifically in line with each clıb’s needs and demands with content created by the Altyazı Film Magazine team, a collaborator of the project, many issues were taken up, from how to set up a film club, to what kind of activities it can carry out, and from film analysis and world, Europe and Turkey film history to film criticism.

Within the scope of the project, each club was given film books and DVDs of outstanding examples of world cinema, selected by the Altyazı team. In light of the belief that following certain film activities realized in Istanbul and the sharing of this experience with other club members would be highly beneficial in terms of the clubs’ development, two participants from each city were invited to the !f Istanbul International Independent Films Festival, held in February 2009. Participants took part in workshops held from 18 to 21 February 2009 at the festival and viewed a selection of films. In meetings held, potential projects for the future were discussed with clubs. The students also visited the Istanbul Boğaziçi University Mithat Alam Film Centre.

The Project to Support the Foundation of Film Clubs in Universities was carried out in collaboration with Altyazı Film Magazine and !f İstanbul, and with the support of the Heinrich Böll Foundation and British Council.
