Handcraft Workshops with Women

1.1.2009 - 31.10.2010
Kars

Workshop Coordinators: Selçuk Gürışık, Atıf Atalayer, Galina Turdyeva, Dinara Chochunbaeva

The aim of the felt workshops Anadolu Kültür carried out from 2007 on with women in Kars was to revive an almost forgotten art/craft by introducing this traditionally used material, and thus to create a product that Kars could present to its visitors within the scope of plans to develop cultural tourism, and to contribute to the local economy. Within the scope of the workshop, women in Kars received training in making shawls, baby dolls and slippers from felt. Additional workshops were held to enable women to develop themselves in cloth-printing techniques. At the end of the workshops, the felt products of the women were exhibited at the Kars Namık Kemal Cultural Center.

Handcraft Workshops with Women were realized with the support of the Christensen Foundation and in partnership with Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, The Central Asian Crafts Support Association (CACSA), Anatolian Artisans and Kamer (The Women’s Center Foundation).
