Rethinking the Concept of Justice

February 2004 - May 2005
Diyarbakır Art Center, Diyarbakır

The Rethinking the Concept of Justice project, which brought together academics, writers, journalists and artists from the domestic and international sphere in order to question the concept of justice and to contemplate the possibilities of coexistence in a just society, includes a series of panels spread out over a year, and an exhibition organized with the participation of 13 artists from the Middle East, Caucasus and the Balkans.

Academics, writers, poets and journalists from various disciplines were invited to the panel program aiming to encourage debate on an independent platform on the plural understandings of justice and imaginations of a ‘just world’ by discussing the concept of justice within the framework of various disciplines including art, literature, political sciences, history and philosophy. Around 1500 people took part in the nine panels held over a year at the Diyarbakır Art Center, Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality and Dicle University.

The series of interviews carried out under the main heading of Justice Talks was supported by the Netherlands Consulate General.

The texts of the talks were published in 2007 under the title Justice Talks.
