Tandem Turkey 2013-2014

Tandem: Cultural Managers Exchange Program Turkey – European Union

Following the path of the first round of the programme, an open call for participation in Tandem Turkey II was announced in February 2013 and closed in April 2013. In total, 79 applications from 25 different cities from Turkey have been received while 180 applications were made from 26 different EU countries. After the selection process, 42 representatives of culture and art organizations were invited to meet for the 'Partner Forum' in Izmir. 


The participants were matched during the Partner Forum and 19 Tandems (partners) applied with a collaboration proposal and 15 projects were selected by an external jury to participate in the program. In total 32 cultural managers, out of which 15 come from from Turkey (Ankara, Antalya, Artvin, Gaziantep, İstanbul, İzmir and Sivas) and 17 from Europe (Germany, Belgium, Finland, England, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Greece). Then 32 cultural managers and institutions would visit each other, enrich their artistic experiences, implement their collaboration projects, and produce joint works.

The selected participants also attended several joint meetings such as the 'Kick-off Meeting' in September 2013 in Berlin. Various workshops on international project management and follow up were organized during the meeting. The participants also met in Budapest in 2014 for the 'Interim Meeting' to evaluate the culture and art projects they are carrying out, attend workshops on the publicity of international projects, and share their experiences. Finally, they met in Berlin in 2014 to evaluate the 15 projects and the overall programme. During the meeting, all participants presented their projects, and shared their recommendations for the continuation of the programme. 

Following the Final Meeting in Berlin, Studio-X Istanbul hosted the presentation of Tandem projects on October 17-22, 2014. The exhibition was designed by Emrah Gökdemir and co-curated by Saliha Yavuz and Serra Özhan-Yüksel. On October 17, Sulukule Youth Orchestra and the Hungarian M&M music and dance group performed a mini concert for the opening of the exhibition featuring videos exploring social movements around the world, exchange of comments on photographs by high school students from Barcelona and Istanbul, and the outputs of the hip-hop workshops in Istanbul, Diyarbakır, Batman and Mardin. On October 18, there was a reading of the Polish playwright Malgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk’s text ‘From Istanbul with Love’.
